Procurement

The potential of green public procurement to bring about a sustainable economy is immense. The sheer volumes and values involved when governments procure goods and services present in themselves an important incentive for greener growth and governments have begun to use their purchasing power to transform markets.

Green public procurement possesses great and largely unharnessed potentials in catalysing green growth

Governments spend almost half their budgets on procurement - from buildings, furniture, utilities and computers to the commissioning of roads, railways, power plants, schools and hospitals.

By harnessing and strategically directing public investments governments can leverage their weighty purchasing power to drive the green growth agenda forward , transform the market, and create incentives for businesses to take the risks to invest, innovate and commercialize green products and services across domestic and global value chains.

3GF supports initiatives and PPPs driving green procurement forward.
