Prof. Lee Seung Hoon, Co-Chair for 3GF Advisory Board and Co-Chair of the Green Growth Committee on the Government, Republic of Korea; Ms. Lisbeth Jespersen, Head of Department, Global Green Growth Forum, Denmark and Mr. Shi Lishan, Deputy Director General, National Energy Administration, Peoples Republic of China

3GF is a Danish-led green growth platform implemented in partnership with China and a number of other countries as well as private companies and international organisations. The overall objective of 3GF is to accelerate the green transition process by providing a global platform that initiates and enables scalable green growth solutions. A key element of this is to push forward innovative public-private partnerships that can foster the development of new resource efficient solutions in areas which are critical to the green transition, like water, energy, waste management, land use and food security.

The aim of the one-day 3GF Asia regional meeting has been to dive into key Asian and, in particular, Chinese green growth priorities, challenges and opportunities as well as bringing an existing global partnership on the key issue of sustainable lifestyles to the Asian context and thereby also offer a cross-cutting look into 3GF public-private partnerships for green growth.

The Asian region’s booming economy offers tremendous green growth potential but also large and interlinked economic, social and environmental challenges. Global challenges of population growth, the pressure on resources and the effects of climate change mean that successful sustainment of the positive developments, as well as the adaption to – and mitigation of - the rising challenges, will depend greatly on a transition to solutions, where green growth is placed centre-stage and perceived as an integral part of the way forward.

“The 3GF provides a useful platform for Asian stakeholders who want to engage in finding solutions to the emerging global resource crises. Public-private partnerships are the key method to driving the green transition process. And this is exactly what 3GF provides: A platform for access to a number of existing public-private partnerships on green growth as well as to initiate new scalable green growth solutions. I am convinced that Asian partners will gain a lot from using the 3GF platform to further advance the green growth process already ongoing in Asia” said Prof. Lee Seung Hoon, Co-Chain for the 3GF Advisory Board and Co-Chair of the Green Growth Committee on the Government of the Republic of Korea.

“The Asian region’s booming economy offers tremendous green growth potential but also large and interlinked economic, social and environmental challenges. The 3GF Asian meeting offers the possibility of developing and strengthening regional and national engagement in public-private partnerships that work to unlock the green growth potential. It is also our hope that the meeting will foster new partnerships” said Mr. Shi Lishan, Deputy Director General, National Energy Administration, People’s Republic of China

The opening of the one day meeting was undertaken by Mr. Shi Lishan, Deputy Director General, National Energy Administration, Peoples Republic of China and Prof. Lee Seung Hoon, Co-Chair for the 3GF Advisory Board and Co-Chair of the Green Growth Committee on the Government Republic of Korea with welcoming remarks from Eco-Forum Global representatives Mr. Zhang Xinsheng, President for IUCN and Executive Chairman of Eco-Forum Global and Mr. Alex Zhang, Executive Director for Eco-Forum Global.

The 3GF Asian regional conference is one in a series of regional meetings and activities in the African, Latin American and Asian regions throughout 2015. They will support the momentum of key international processes on sustainable development goals and climate – and 3GF will be an innovative and action oriented platform for implementing solutions in support of these goals.

The outcome of the regional meeting will feed into the next 3GF Global Summit to take place in Copenhagen 20- 21 April 2016, hosted by the Danish Prime Minister.
