IDB, Denmark and Colombia host regional Global Green Growth Forum in Bogotá

23.05.2013  10:43

The Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), Denmark and Colombia will host a regional 3GF focusing on green growth and renewable energy in Latin America and the Caribbean.

The meeting will convene leaders from the private and public sector together with leading organisations on 18 June 2013 in Bogotá.
This first regional 3GF meeting aims to provide a platform for dialogue among high-level stakeholders focused on transforming LAC’s energy future in the face of a changing climate, making use of the substantial endowment for renewable energy and seizing the vast opportunities for gains in energy efficiency in the region.

Increased demand of energy in the LAC region

The LAC region will have increasing energy demands as large segments of its population achieve improved standards of living. While regional GDP is expected to grow somewhere between 3 and 4 percent during the next few years, energy demand will outpace economic growth.  In light of the region’s substantial endowment of renewable sources of energy, experts believe that 1TW of energy potential from non-conventional renewable energy sources (geothermal, wind, solar and marine, among others) could be made available over the medium/long-term.

Objectives for the 3GFLAC meeting

  • Increase the profile of regional renewable energy agendas;
  • Create momentum and raise awareness among senior policymakers and private sector leaders;
  • Promote business development opportunities with the private sector;
  • Enable action among energy regulatory agencies and policymakers.

The 3GFLAC meeting will take place on 18 June 2013 in Bogotá, Colombia. The meeting is by-invitation-only.
